What Are Food Allergies?
Food allergies arise from sensitivities to proteins found in food. Your body will find these proteins harmful and elicit an allergic response. The most common food allergies are shellfish, peanuts, cow’s milk, wheat, tree nuts, soy, and eggs. Symptoms of a food allergy can range from mild to severe, and the amount of food necessary to trigger a reaction varies from person to person. Symptoms of a food allergy can range from:
- Stomach pain
- Chest pain
- Hives or rash
- Diarrhea
- Itchy skin
- Anaphalaxis
- Swelling of the airways to the lungs
- Nausea
- Shortness of breath
The staff of GI for Kids, PLLC have seen first hand how food allergies can cause severe problems and disrupt a person’s quality of life. We have developed a way for families to obtain specialized nutritional products that are not covered by government agencies or insurance.
